What is Picaridin?
Picaridin is an effective alternative ingredient to DEET. It has a low odor, with a light, clean feel. Picaridin, also known around the world as KBR3023, or Bayrepel (trademark of Bayer AG) was developed by Bayer. Picaridin has been used worldwide since 1998, and is one of the best selling active ingredients contained in insect repellent products in Europe.

Why is Picaridin different from IR3535?
Both are highly effective ingredients that allow Avon flexibility when developing new repellent products. Both meet Avon's high standard for product performance and aesthetic properties.

Is Picaridin natural?
It is not naturally derived. Picaridin is synthetically produced.

Does Picaridin have an odor?
Picaridin itself is almost odorless, but our product has the pleasant Outdoor Cool Scent.

What level of Picaridin is in Skin So Soft Bug Guard Plus Picaridin?
Our product contains 10% Picaridin.

Does this product contain sunscreen/SPF?
No.

Can I use sunscreen with this product?
We recommend using one of the other Bug Guard Plus products that is a combination of IR3535 insect repellency plus sunscreen.

This product has been extensively tested for repellency against mosquitoes, black flies, biting midges (also known as sand flies, gnats or no-seeums) and deer ticks.

Is this product safe for use on children?
Yes, the EPA reviewed all of the safety information and issued the following use directions for this product. "When applying to children, apply to your own hands and then put it on the child.

We recommend that parents consult their own physicians prior to using on their child less than two years of age because their doctors are familiar with each patient's history and medical conditions.

When would I use Picaridin products?
Technically, this product can be used either day or night, or anytime insect repellency is needed. However, we recommend our SPF-containing products for daytime use. A great time to use this product is at dawn and/or dusk when sunscreen protection is not needed.

Do you have to wash this product off when you come indoors?
Yes.

Why do you have to wash off Picaridin but not IR3535?
The EPA determined that since IR3535 is a botanically based ingredient it does not need to be washed off after returning indoors. However, the EPA is requesting that products containing the ingredient Picaridin be washed off after coming indoors because it is synthetically derived.

How many times a day can you apply this product?
For protection from deer ticks, gnats, no-seeums, sand flies and biting midges, reapply after 7 hours. For mosquitoes reapply after 6 hours. For black flies reapply after 3 hours. Do not exceed 2 applications per day.

Why should I use Picaridin over Expedition or other Avon Skin So Soft Bug Guard products?
Use Expedition for hiking and camping when you are in the woods and outdoors for extended periods of time. Our new Picaridin product is great for families to enjoy outdoor activities like walks, evening barbeques and jogging/running, etc. especially at dusk and/or dawn when sunscreen protection is not needed.
